Photo Journal – Rainbow Bay with Sigma 10-20mm lens

Just bought my first wide angle lens.  My dream was to purchase a Canon but realistically my head overruled and I bought a Sigma 10-20mm.  I bought the F4.5 one, again would have liked the F3.5 but there is my head again overruling.  Sometimes you can wait a long time to get exactly what you want but then miss out on years not having a lens, I took the low road and compromised.

First day out I forgot to check everything and had an ISO of 1600 and wondered why my pictures were not sharp and very, very grainy.   Second day I was more vigilant and ISO 100 check… hood on to stop sun flare check.  Ready to go.  Photos were a lot more pleasing and sharp.  Only unfortunate thing is, and I’m not sure if it is my camera OR if its having a Sigma lens on a Canon body.  The lens only works on manual setting which is no problem to me as I’m quite comfortable with that BUT always having to check it before clicking is a bit of a pain.  It wont work on AV or TV – not sure why…

Anyway I love the way it makes the clouds look and the shape of the objects in the foreground. Quite happy with my new acquisition and will be taking it everywhere with me.  Its turned me into a camera junkie.. I’m at work waiting to get off so I can go and take photos.. that hasn’t happened in a long time so I will go with this new found zeal and hopefully will improve as the only way to get better is practice!  So here’s to a long mutual friendship with my new wide angle lens!
