Just a few minutes south of Barneys Point Bridge at Banora Point is Chinderah. Where once it was a busy village where people stopped off for petrol etc on the way to the Gold Coast, now the bypass has gone through, it is a quiet little hub. There are a lot of caravan parks dotting the Tweed River where retirees live and enjoy the coastal weather and waterfront views.
In Chinderah there I found Ray Evans Antiques. What a surprise. I couldn’t believe how much was packed into the two storey corner store. It is absolutely jam packed with antiques, especially of the nautical theme and anything you could want would be in there… you just have to find it. Its worth a visit to wander through the shop reminiscing over items from yesteryear. Anything from ivory smoking pipes (not for me!!) to crystal to leather suitcases is available. All available for hire as well. Amongst all the antiquities they also have a nautical museum.
Its worth a stop off just for nostalgic reasons and if you love anything nautical you will be in there for a long period of time.
I remember ray at Murwillumbah. Yes, it’s true he dearly loves everything old! Miss you Ray & glad you’re not too far away from Mt Warning. Colleen
