This is the 3rd year of the Bleach Festival on the Gold Coast and this year its celebrating the end of Summer. It celebrates our beach lifestyle and in the weeks to come there will be live music, cinema on the beach, street parties, opera on the beach and much more.
One of the events that I was interested in was Fibro Coast which highlights some original fibro properties on the southern end of the coast. Sadly with the progression of time these fibro cottages are a rare site as modern multi-story complexes take their place. These fibro cottages are one of the last links to the Gold Coast’s history of the vibrant 50s and 60s and the surf culture and holiday mecca.
The festival runs from 7th to 23rd March 2014 and is held annually with more suburbs getting involved each year.
Today we started our journey at Kirra Hill Community Centre where we picked up our brochure and headed out to yesteryear. Guided walking tours will be held at different intervals during the day.
At the end of the day we went back to the Community Centre for a barbeque and a drink watching the pink sunset light up the sky before disappearing. Perfect ending with a glass of sauvignon blanc from the cute old caravan and a relaxing way to finish the weekend.
I would love to hear from you...
