Bangalow is a lovely town situated a few kilometres from its more popular brother – Byron Bay. Underestimated by a lot of overseas tourists but valued by locals and northern visitors from the Gold Coast as a quieter, less commercial town with country values.
On the hunt for antique or quirky vintage stores, the discovery of Heaths Collectables came to my attention. Tucked away in a side street it takes you by surprise. So much to see, photograph and buy!
A trip up the main street provides a different appeal with a smattering of homewares shops, clothing, and food stores. Once a year the billy cart derby is held and the main street is blocked off for the downhill run (unfortunately I was a week early and couldn’t go back for it this year but definitely on the calendar for next year). It is usually held on one Sunday in May.
Only an hours drive from the Gold Coast it is worth a day visit and stay for lunch at one of their wonderful restaurants/coffee shops where local produce is usually on the menu.
I have put my portrait in this week’s monochrome madness challenge
Love the gallery – works so well together with colour and b/w. Great photos as always.

Your photos are gorgeous. You have a really good eye for composition…is that the word? I’m still a newbie, forgive me. Whatever it is, you’ve got it!! I like how you write about the places you visit too instead of just posting the pictures. It makes for a very interesting post. 🙂
