Sitting in my dining room on a vintage sideboard, surrounded by blues and whites, sits my colourful Chinese man holding a container – a chest with an elephant handle. I thought it perfect for this weeks photo challenge: containers.
This belonged to my mother and father. They received it as a wedding present from a relative or friend in the early 1940s. Unfortunately when my mother and father moved into their home together it had broken. A lot of people would think this bad luck but my mum and dad lived happily in their married life until my fathers death. He remained the love of her life and when she passed, because I was fond of elephants, this became mine.
I remember my mother telling me about this ornament on several occasions as I was growing up and it holds fond memories for me. It is only made of china but to me it is made of much more, in its container it holds precious memories and love and every now and then I open it just to delve into those memories.
