On The Gold Coast we are in winter at present, although most of Australia would think “its not really winter on the Gold Coast” as our winter temperatures have plummeted to 5oC minimum at worst and about 23oC on average during the day. This can be, in some parts of the world, their summer temperatures and I would be the first to say we don’t do it tough here in winter, although we do rug up and have our warm winter woollies on!
Pretty much all year around I could take this picture but it just happens it was the middle of summer and there were a lot of people at Snapper Rocks when the big surf was on. I was lucky enough to be there on one of the big crashing wave days.
This photo truly reflects what summer lovin’ is here on the Gold Coast and what it means to me, where its a surfers paradise most days and swimmers pretty much 100% of the time.

Gorgeous! Love the Gold Coast and our beaches. Perfect for the challenge Kaz 🙂

The first picture is a great shot. Beautiful explosion of the water.

Thanks Erwin, it was a powerful surf and I thought a quick shutter speed might do the trick to catch it in its glory, shame I couldn’t get further out but it happened so quickly.

Yes I know, you need really the moment to catch it. Often you are waiting and waiting and just when you have enough and put the camera away the great wave comes. This one you really got at the moment.

Beautiful photos! Two questions: 1. Is the water warm? 2. Don’t the surfers worry about surfing so close to the rocks?

Water is warmer in summer of course but surfers don’t really care. I don’t go in unless its sweltering! The surfers usually use those rocks to walk over and jump in the surf and the waves head away from the rocks.. I guess sometimes they might run into them if its pretty rough but Id frankly be more worried about sharks 🙂

I understand why it’s called ‘gold coast’.

I’ve never really thought about it but you’re right. It’s pretty sunny most of the time. Thanks for your comment. 🙂

I love Snapper Rocks. Great shots there Kaz.
Just a tip for doing the degrees celcius thing e.g. 0°C thing. If you hold down the Alt key and then type the numbers 0176 before the ‘C’ it will give you the tiny 0. I found this out one day and I have used it countless times. 🙂

Thanks Sue, I will try to remember to do that. Its a handy tool. Appreciate the hint. 🙂

The power of the ocean is something that, at times, can truly terrify me but I do love the sound of the crashing surf. Love that your photo makes me feel and hear it! Absolutely perfect summer lovin’ photo 🙂

Thanks Stacy. 🙂 I feel the same. Love the surf more from the beach than actually in it. Its magnificent but can be too powerful at times. .

Those are nice wave crashing pics, all right, but I’m guessing the surfers aren’t going to be riding any of THOSE waves, unless they want to go crashing into those rocks. 🙂
By the way, alt+0176 will give you a degree (°) character for your temperature designations. 🙂
