Photography 101 assignment: In this age of social media, we hear the word connect more often, don’t we? Connect with us on Facebook! Connect with me on LinkedIn! Given what today’s technologies can do, it feels like the world is getting smaller, and we’re more connected than ever before.
There are many ways to interpret this theme: from a gadget to a handshake, from a bridge to a gathering among friends. What’s yours?
Mine cuts through the connectivity of the internet and all its apps to something more visceral – contact between a mother and child at its most necessary. There cannot be anything more important than this….
This picture was taken on Kangaroo Island, South Australia at Seal Bay. When we first saw the seals we thought lazy animals just lying around in the sun. What we didn’t realise until the park rangers informed us, was that the adult seals go out for days at a time to sea foraging for food all the while leaving their young at home unprotected. They stay at home to rest before heading back out again. Not a life I would wish for. They are beautiful animals though.

Beautifully caught! Were they shy? I haven’t been to Kangaroo Island – yet. It’s on my bucket list though 🙂

No not shy but really not interested in our presence. We were told if we got in the way of them coming down from the bushes to the sea they would think we were a threat and may be aggressive but other than that didn’t worry one jot about us. We couldn’t get within touching distance but we were only about 3 feet or a couple of metres away. Definitely worth the visit! 🙂

I will be posting some more shots of Kangaroo Island in the next couple of weeks. It was a lovely place, a lot larger than I expected and we spent a fair bit of time travelling between spots. Worth actually staying there and doing it at your own pace rather than a day trip from Adelaide. 🙂

We have a big trip planned for next year – six months or however long it takes to go around Australia with our caravan. We’ll have to see how we can get across there with the van. 🙂

Oh how wonderful. My sister also said coming from Western Australia across the bight was the best experience watching the whales and its definitely on my bucket list too one day. I hope we get to see your photos along the way 🙂
