Photography 101: The Natural World

Todays assignment is the natural world. Capture the natural world with your camera: document a moment outside, big or small. From a panorama snapped during your morning forest hike to a close-up of a leaf on the sidewalk, we invite you to document this wondrous world around us.

This picture was taken at Seal Bay. Behind me was a beautiful vista of sea and expansive coastline and seals, which I did take a picture of but then I looked behind and found the sand dunes that the wind had played with and shaped then at the sand paths between the bushes that formed a pattern. I quite liked the different curves and angles that I saw before me and was happy that I decided to turn around and see what else was around, not just at the main event – the seals.

  1. Yes, all the curves and textures make the composition so amazing! Funny how focusing off the main subject gives you another perspective and probably a better image 🙂

    • Thanks Terri, sometimes I forget to look around and move outside of the area where I particularly want to shoot and I try now to look around more which proved worthwhile this time around. Thanks so much for commenting 🙂

  2. We forget to look outside the square sometimes, and look what you got to photograph by doing so – that lovely pattern the sand made over the grassy area which makes that area more interesting to look at. Well done!

  7. What a great image, so full of texture and sense of sweeping movement…..looking away from the main attractions is something I love to do….it soaks in the atmosphere in a more subtle way 🙂
