I have been following Jennifer Nicole Wells’ blog for the past year and have had fun in entering her challenges about colour. This year she has moved on to weather which will be a different and somewhat harder challenge I would have to admit. Doing landscape you would think it would be easy being outdoors, but I mostly do sunrise or sunset shots which lends itself to the sun, other weather photos may be quite challenging. It remains to be seen but an exciting challenge nonetheless.
This week however it is to do with the sun and the sun and its effects I have…..
Gorgeous Kaz! I love your photos 🙂

Love them all but the last one is so atmospheric. Were you using an ND filter?

Thanks Vannillarock very much, yes it was a 10 stop ND filter, I never go anywhere without it 🙂

I have no success at all with my 10 stop., even after reading as much as I can online. If the meta data for that shot is to hand would you mind telling me, please.
I am trying to use my 10 stop on a canon 6D on a 24-105mm lens. Obviously I set up the shot on a tripod without the filter first (as I can’t see anything when filter is on!)

Hi Anne I presume its a screw on filter. I usually turn it down to the lowest setting focus then click over to manual focus so it doesn’t shift or play up and push the filter back up to what stop I need for the speed I am using. My live view helps greatly as I am a bit lazy to do calculations. I dial up and down and watch the live view to see what stop is best. I’ll check the meta data when I get home on the original shot and get back to you. I just shared this link today on Facebook – not sure if its any help – http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-use-a-10-stop-nd-filter-to-take-long-exposure-sunset-images/

thank you so much for your time. i really appreciate it. one thing I’ve learned though (at my advanced age) is there is never a stupid question. i followed the link – thank you and i am going to have a go with live view. i didn’t think of that mainly because i have only recently upgraded to the 6D. i see the detailed setting on that article so don’t worry about digging out the those for the shot on the blog. thanks again 🙂

I think we are guaranteed of that, though the sun may not always be shining, but we will get something. 🙂
